About Last Night: Parks and Recreation

Season 4, Episode 18, 3/08/2012 (“Lucky”)

Ron: Anyone want to go to JJ’s for some after dinner omelets?

Well, we had our last Parks and Recreation episode for over a month! Sure it’s so Community can come back, but sad face. Thankfully, it was doozy of an episode to keep us going, with Leslie giving a drunk interview to Pawnee-hating Buddy Wood (the hilarious Sean Hayes) for his big city Indianapolis morning talk show.

What’s that?! Leslie being unprofessional?? She only does that when it’s among friends since, as noted last night, no one takes this more seriously than Leslie, not even uptight Ben and his burgundy cardi-sweater. In her defense, Leslie was just trying to let off some steam with flaming shots and poncho wear when her originally scheduled Buddy meet-up was canceled. Unfortunately for her booze-guzzling, Buddy’s flight was delayed by the inept, podunk Pawnee airport, a fact he kept going on and on about as evidence of why Pawnee sucks super hard. Obviously, this prompts Leslie to flash angry eyes, slur some retorts, and drunkenly trip while exiting mid-interview.

After gathering the gang in Tom’s hot tub limo to intervene and stop Bobby from airing, we find there’s no need. Pawnee really is the best town with the best people: the airport workers, ‘lost’ Buddy’s bag, saving Leslie from public embarrassment! Yayz! Thank goodness there was an accident at the kitten factory for Buddy to cover instead!

In other Parks and Rec goings-on, Donna passes up a bath with a hot firefighter to watch Jerry zen out pitting mailers in envelopes (“It makes sense to me.”), while Ron gets busy with Andy’s Women’s Studies professor. Of course, this is after she rejects a lonely Chris, who is so sad even April wants to help him. Seriously, is she the new Pawnee matchmaker? First Tom and Ann and now trying to fix Chris up? Too bad he was competing against Ron Swanson, resplendently moustached and satiated with three rare steaks (“Please and thank you”).

Speaking of Tom and Ann, apparently the writers are aware that the couple makes no sense, as they are constantly breaking up. Still, despite a bit more playfulness between the two, I’m still meh. I know, I know, I keep saying this. But I admit, when they were slightly cuter this week, I thought to myself, “I did this! Writing a blog on the Internet does make a difference in the real world!”

I’ll just have to ride this triumphant feeling about the power I have over my favorite show while waiting for it to return, like Leslie was so gonna ride Ben at the end of last night’s episode. I mean, who can resist those skinny ties and grandpa sweaters?
